The past few weeks, I’ve been studying the Nature of God. There are, at least, two reasons why I think it is VERY important to know this:
1. It’s important to our relationship with God and the fullness of our faith.
2. We are ALL called to be ministers. How can we minister to others if we cannot even begin to describe God?
Number 2 hit me recently when talking to someone the other day. Since I am studying a lot, I LOVE to have someone to talk with about all my studies. So, to get the ball rolling, I asked “To you, what is the Nature of God?” Since, this person is someone I consider to be Christian educated and was a minister at one time, I just knew the conversation would be awesome.
Instead, he said “What nature? There is no nature. God just is….”
Now, to be fair, I might have caught him off guard with the question, and we weren’t in an ‘ideal’ place for this discussion but it got me thinking…
If ‘we’ as Christians cannot answer this question, how can we effectively help others to know and have a relationship with God? Sometimes we only get one moment to make a difference. If we stumble on an answer or cannot ‘explain’ what we believe than how can we expect others to know God through us?
So, think on this today? God is…
What is your answer? Do you know? What if an unbeliever asks you today? Are you ready to answer?
There are a few things I have learned about the Nature of God, so we will continue this conversation, soon…
