The Church of The Nazarene has always been a part of my life. I have no memories of a 'beginning", and see no future with an 'end'. From the the nursery, to Sunday school, Bible quizzing, and now small groups; I have always found a place in the church where I can learn from others or share my faith with those around me.
As a child in Sunday school, I remember the bible stories and fun. I recall the excitement of 'breaking ground' on a new church building. As a teen, I looked forward to summer camp every year, and no one was more filled with wonder and peace, as me, in 1988, when I was baptized.
I was fortunate to be surrounded by many strong Nazarene families in the church. I grew up around other children of Christian households and have fond memories of Sunday afternoons of play and friendship between Sunday services. Many of these parents and children are now leaders in the Nazarene Church.
Through teens and early adulthood, my Church attendance suffered. However, my belief in Jesus Christ never wavered. He has seen me through sorrow and victories, and I am constantly humbled by His grace.
I have always had a feeling that God would like to see "big things" from me. As a child the feeling was overwhelming and a little scary. As an adult, I realized God wants ALL His children to follow His will, surrender all to him, and serve Him daily. I truly believe that all Christians are called to be ministers of God. I have felt God's call to ministry for a few years now, but felt overwhelmed by feelings of unworthiness. I now understand God does not choose the worthy, as none of us are deserving of his grace. It is a gift. My pastor has been meeting with me weekly to council me about my calling. He has also taken the time to work with me on church doctrine and Nazarene Theology. I am excited about all the many things God is revealing about Himself to me, and appreciate the time Pastor Larry takes to help me sort through them all.
I am currently 33 years old. I have been married to a wonderful, supporting man for 13 years. We have two small children, James, age 8, is smart, caring and extremely entertaining. Kendra, age 5, is kind, caring, and very sweet. I want nothing more for them, than to know the love of God. I pray they may feel His daily presence and to know Him as our Father.
My Husband works hard, so that I may be with our children and take care of our home. I am currently serving my second term as President of our local PTA, at the children's elementary school. If you have never held the position, let me tell you, it comes with a lot of responsibility and some hard work. I oversee a Board of Directors with 7 people and we manage over 150 volunteers. Our activities include a school wide carnival, a cultural arts program with many students going on to the State and National contest every year, and a program to help teachers in their classrooms. We are involved with numerous other programs throughout the year, including matters of health, safety and education for our children.
I also serve on our local Building Level Team at the elementary level. This committee makes decisions on curriculm, procedures, and safety for over 300 students.
I was recently asked to serve with a new program at our District Education level. The 21st Century Learning Task Force will be making important decisions regarding the education of all students in the District, from Pre-kindergarten to 12th grade. Our current educational system is not working and must have a complete overhaul. This will be the focus of our committee. Important decisions will be made that may affect many children. I am honored to have been asked to serve.
My days are busy but I have a large group of supporters. My family is extended and there is always someone willing to lend a hand. Including but not limited to my grandmother, my parents, my In-laws, and my friends. My children, husband, and I are very blessed to have so many people around us that support us and want to help us in everything we persue.
I currently serve on numerous committees and keep myself busy with raising two children. However, this will not be a liability to my education. I know my education is the path I am supposed to take and it will remain a priority. I do not know the direction in which I will be called to serve, but I know I will need this education to serve well.
God has given me a thirst for knowledge and an excited about ministry. I feel the Ministry Preparation Program at NBC is the perfect for match for my current needs. I believe NBC can provide me with the education and foundation I will need to carry God's message to others.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this essay and for considering my application. I hope we 'see' more of each other in the future.
